Rapid Emergency Deployment (RED) Team

Relief International seeks humanitarians who are ready to deploy globally and with short notice in the case of a disaster or emergency (an ideal candidate is ready to deploy with one week's notice). Team members will conduct initial needs assessments, coordinate with acting agencies, and design and implement relief projects.

  • For inclusion in the Rapid Emergency Deployment (RED) Teams, Relief International conducts a level of prescreening and training.
  • Members of the RED Teams are expected to have specific skill sets and/or previous international experience.
  • Assignments may be as short as two weeks but can also last for many months.
  • RED Team volunteers are skilled professionals, but are unpaid. In some instances, Relief International will pay for RED volunteer travel, accommodation, meals, and per diem, but this varies from response to response.
  • Relief International provides specific pre-departure training opportunities for volunteers who have been selected for participation in Relief International's RED Teams.

If accepted onto the RED team roster, the new member will be contacted during future disaster responses if their skill set is seen as needed in the context of a particular disaster response. While acceptance to the RED Team roster is not a guarantee of travel, Relief International will often provide training opportunities and regular newsletters on contemporary disaster responses. In exchange, we expect RED team members to be an advocate for Relief International in their communities.

"I have worked all over the world in search and rescue and disaster management. In Sri Lanka, Relief International was the only small and highly mobile group that got to a population that was stranded by the Tsunami. I will keep coming back to work with Relief International because of their incredible commitment to people in crises."
