Livestock for Life: Afghanistan

This program raises awareness about zoonotic diseases — diseases passed between animals and people — among livestock herders, health practitioners and policy makers. In the rural communities of Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, livestock and humans live in close proximity. In those areas, poor hygienic conditions and a lack of knowledge about disease transfer mechanisms have contributed to the spread of diseases such as brucellosis and rabies, with high costs for human and livestock health.
