Parents as Change Agents: Promoting Hygiene in Jordan

In partnership with UNICEF, RI implemented a project to improve the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) practices of Jordanian and Syrian students attending 45 schools in the Irbid and Mafraq governorates. By improving access to water and sanitation facilities at these schools, as well as promoting hygiene and water conservation practices, RI eased the challenges these public schools faced with the influx of Syrian refugee students. Part of this program involved training sessions with nearly 15,000 parents. The lesson inspired many mothers deeply, and a group planned to communicate with their neighbors about hygiene and cleanliness after RI and UNICEF’s program ended.
