Despite abundant natural resources in the country, Guinean nonetheless live in poverty and the country faces several economic problems. Relief International - Enterprise Works/VITA (RI/EWV) has always recognized the critical link between sustainable development and the wise management of natural resources. For this reason, RI/EWV has consistently sought responsible ways to help people improve their productivity and increase their incomes in resource-conscious ways.
RI believes improved incomes and agricultural productivity helps relieve collective pressures on soil, water, and biological resources. From 1999-2005, RI/EWV worked on promoting the increased use of sustainable natural resource management practices. Currently the main focus of RI/EWV is to address the country's biggest problem - poor governance. Through the Multi-Sectoral Interventions to Advance Democratic Governance in Guinea project, also known as Faisons Ensemble (FE), RI/EWV is tasked with working with and through Guinean organizations and institutions, as appropriate, to contribute its expertise and experience in the areas of agriculture and natural resource management (Ag/NRM).
