Rasha, a Relief International Mental Health Case Manager in Lebanon, sees firsthand how conflict and displacement take a devastating toll on people’s mental health.
“Every day, I witness the silent toll of conflict and displacement on the people that I serve. The scars are invisible, but the mental toll is severely apparent. Living in a state of constant crisis can squeeze the ability to hope out of you. It can be hard to imagine a future beyond just survival.”
Despite the challenges, Rasha finds strength in her work, knowing it makes a profound difference.
“Regardless of where you live or the circumstances you live in, having someone to talk to is important. In places where devastation occurs daily, it can be the only thing that keeps you going.”
Rasha is just one of many Relief International healthcare heroes who go above and beyond to serve communities in crisis. Across the world, our local teams provide critical care to people who would otherwise have no access to essential healthcare services.
In South Sudan, midwife Gune Alice has delivered more than 3,000 babies, often with minimal supplies and under the threat of violence outside her tent.
In Afghanistan, Hamza braves treacherous terrain, visiting up to 35 homes a day to deliver vaccines and care to remote villages—by motorbike in the summer and on foot in the winter.
In Syria, Dr. Saleh and his team operate mobile clinics, providing life-saving care to displaced families. Last year alone, they reached more than 400,000 people.
They are the heartbeat of our healthcare work, inspiring hope and ensuring survival in some of the world’s most dangerous places. But there are still so many without access to the care they need.
“There is a difficult truth that has to be addressed: The services I provide—and the broader healthcare services my team provides—are still a distant dream for many people trapped in the world’s most remote and at-risk places,” Rasha explains. Yet, even in these challenging circumstances, hope remains a powerful force.
"The hope of a better future is sometimes all a person has to get through their darkest times. Hope is the reason I get out of bed in the morning. And in many of the cases I see, hope is very hard to hold onto.”
With your support, we can continue delivering hope to communities facing unimaginable hardship.
For a limited time, your donation will be matched dollar-for-dollar up to $25,000. This means every dollar you give doubles the impact, helping us deliver critical medical services to more families in need.
