Profound tragedy within the Relief International family.
On Friday, April 11, Rapid Support Forces (RSF) fighters entered Zamzam Camp in Sudan, launching a violent attack on civilians and humanitarian workers – including our own staff.
Heavily armed militants stormed a Relief International clinic and brutally killed nine of our brave and dedicated colleagues. Over recent days we have received the news that two more colleagues have also died from injuries sustained in the attack.
Today, we honor our 11 colleagues as the heroes they were. May they rest in eternal peace.
According to initial reports more than 300 innocent civilians, including women and children, are also reported to have been killed in the days of heinous violence.
The loss is catastrophic and our hearts are broken.
Relief International was the last organization providing life-saving support in Zamzam, where over half a million people are surviving in desperate conditions.
We believe the attack on our clinic, like others in recent weeks, was intended to dismantle what little access to healthcare remains for displaced communities in El Fasher and surrounding displacement camps.

Mark Atterton describes brutal RSF attack which killed Relief International colleagues and hundreds of civilians.
April 15 marked two years of relentless war in Sudan.
During that time our team has continued their work with unwavering dedication — providing life-saving support in the most difficult of circumstances.
Despite this unimaginable loss, Relief International remains committed to the Sudanese people who are suffering the world’s largest displacement crisis.
Communities in Zamzam Camp were already suffering famine and disease, with dire access to food, water and medical supplies, and this terrifying siege is causing even more forced movement across North Darfur, as once again, families search desperately for safety.
