Saving Lives and Supporting Communities in 2024

Relief International is one of the world’s most nimble, localized humanitarian aid organizations. Throughout 2024, we delivered critical medical care and support to families cut off from healthcare by conflict, natural disasters, and other crises – with many thanks to our global community of supporters who makes this work possible.

We saw our global, 7,000+ team members operate in 16 countries across the world, delivering services in active conflict zones from Sudan to isolated villages in the mountains of Afghanistan. Our teams continued to provide critical care to communities trapped in some of the world’s most difficult to reach locations. 97% of RI’s team are from the places where they work, which continued to position us to drive long-term impact while also meeting emergency needs.

2024 at a Glance: Our Global Impact

Our dedicated team has gone the distance to make a difference. In 2024, we have:

  • Provided more than 7 million health consultations, including emergency treatment, primary care, maternity support, and mental health services;
  • Trained over 10,000 healthcare workers, ensuring sustainable, community-driven solutions were–and continue to be—at the forefront of everything we do; and
  • Provided clean water and sanitation to nearly 450,000 people and promoted hygiene education to safeguard vulnerable populations worldwide.

Relief International also made significant strides in addressing humanitarian challenges across the globe through our integrated approach that addresses immediate needs while fostering long-term resilience. For example:

  • We played a critical role in expanding immunization coverage in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas. In the Philippines, collaborative efforts with UNICEF and the Philippine Department of Health resulted in the full immunization of over 100,000 children against preventable diseases such as diphtheria, hepatitis B, and polio.
  • We reached over 170,000 individuals with nutritional support in Sudan and South Sudan, where communities are fighting for their survival. Sudan is now among the top four countries in the world for acute malnutrition, with over half of the population (25.6 million people) facing crisis or worse levels of hunger, and one in every four people facing emergency levels of acute food insecurity.
  • We have continued to provide emergency healthcare services and supplies in northern Gaza, where nearly all hospitals and clinics are now in ruins amid brutal ongoing conflict. In partnership with the Al Awda Health and Communities Association, we are working to protect communities against preventable diseases and ensure the remaining few hospitals are functional as places of hope and healing.
  • We provided aid to communities impacted by climate-related disasters, including distributing emergency cash assistance to flood-affected families in Iran and strengthening disaster preparedness in other fragile settings.
  • We equipped children and young people to be the architects of their own and their communities’ futures by increasing access to education in Somalia—particularly for girls—and by addressing barriers such as early marriage and cultural restrictions.
