What are Carbon Credits?
Every day our actions leave behind a carbon footprint. The travel, food, and home energy choices we make generate greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to climate change. In RI’s 17 countries of operation, our teams witness the negative effects of climate change day in, day out.
A carbon credit is a kind of permit that represents one ton of carbon dioxide (CO2) removed from the atmosphere. When you buy Carbon Credits from Relief International, you offset your personal impact on the environment and help bring us closer to a carbon-neutral world.
We reinvest your funds across Africa, Asia, and the Middle East to help in the fight against climate change.
You can’t live a zero-emissions life. But you can take action to reduce your carbon footprint and build greater climate resilience around the world.
FAQ
Why Should I Offset My Carbon Footprint?
Carbon offsetting is an internationally recognised way to take responsibility for unavoidable carbon emissions. In simple terms, offsetting one ton of carbon means there will be one less ton of CO2 in the atmosphere than there would otherwise have been. When you buy Carbon Credits from Relief International, you lessen your personal impact on the environment and help bring us closer to a carbon-neutral world.
What Happens When I Have Made My Purchase?
Relief International will send you a certificate with a unique number, recognising your carbon offsetting, and a receipt for your payment. We then contact Gold Standard and they permanently retire the credit(s) so they can't be reused. Finally, we reinvest your funds with the fragile communities with who we work across Africa, Asia and the Middle East, to help them build resilience in the face of climate change.
Is My Purchase Tax Deductable?
No. Because your transaction enables the purchase of goods, it is not currently tax deductible.
What Is The Gyapa™ Cookstoves Project?
Relief International’s Gyapa™ Cookstove Project provides clean, efficient cookstoves to families in Ghana. Each efficient stove uses about half the fuel of traditional alternatives, which not only cuts carbon emissions and reduces pressure on local deforestation, but also saves families money. The project has cut five million tonnes of CO2e over the past 12 years with over 20,000 stoves being produced monthly and 1.9 million stoves sold in total. Overall, the project supports more than 600 local manufacturing and retail jobs. In addition to providing employment and income, the project invests in local producers training and skills and to improve working conditions for those in the stove manufacturing process.
Investing with Confidence
