Ramping Up Support for Afghan Refugees amidst COVID-19

Home to one of the largest refugee populations in the world, Iran hosts close to three million Afghans who were forced to flee their homes by conflict or economic instability  and will be hardest hit by the global pandemic.

Relief International’s partnership with Seek Refuge seeks to expand upon our work with Afghan refugees as they recover and rebuild their lives in Iran. Together, our work aims to secure much-needed support for refugee populations living in fragile settings. With the COVID-19 pandemic far from over, these efforts are now more urgent than ever.

Seek Refuge and its supporters fundraised more than $9,000 in support of Relief International’s COVID-19 response in Iran. Specifically, Seek Refuge’s most recent crowdfunding campaign on Instagram raised funds for our work with Afghan refugees in Iran amidst the global pandemic.

As one of the most at-risk groups in the country, Afghan refugees are especially vulnerable to the outbreak of COVID-19. Seek Refuge’s support has bolstered Relief International’s efforts to reach out to Afghan refugees in Iran and educate them on how to best protect themselves against the virus. Our teams on the ground are distributing informational flyers and posters to share accurate information about preventative measures, such as wearing a mask and social distancing, to contain the spread of COVID-19.

Thanks to the contributions of partners like Seek Refuge, we have also been distributing hygiene kits with soap, hand sanitizer, and masks to those most in need. We will continue to implement new programs to support the hundreds of thousands of Afghan refugees who live in hard-to-reach areas in Iran and the host communities that support them.
