Relief International Prepares Emergency Response for Flood-Stricken Communities in Southern Iran

More than 100,000 Iranians are facing catastrophic floods in the country’s isolated and impoverished southern provinces. Many of these same areas were affected by the March 2019 deadly torrential rains that inundated hundreds of cities and villages, destroying homes and triggering landslides.

Emergency Response Launched as Floods in Southern Iran Destroy Homes and Isolate Communities

Iranians are facing catastrophic floods – again. It’s only been nine months since last spring’s deadly torrential rains hit hundreds of cities and villages, triggering landslides and damaging homes beyond repair. As the rains continue, our teams are working to meet families’ most urgent needs for food, clean water, blankets, hygiene kits, and emergency shelter.

Somalia Flooding Displaces Thousands, Deepens Food Crisis

Somalia’s Hiraan region is facing the worst floods in recent history following the seasonal Deyr rains. The region was already home to 66,000 internally displaced persons, and now an additional 273,000 in Beletweyne district have been forced from their homes by the flooding. Relief International has launched an emergency response to connect those in need to vital resources and services.

Responding to Sudan’s Forgotten Crisis

Office of U.S. Foreign Disaster Assistance

Sudan’s Blue Nile State, situated along the country’s southeastern border, has known war for more than 60 years. Though it’s dwarfed by protracted humanitarian crises in neighboring Darfur and South Sudan, Blue Nile State is home to one of the world’s forgotten crises.

Providing Education in Emergencies

Bader Philanthropies, Inc.

Education is often the first service to disappear in emergencies and the last to be resumed. Traditional aid prioritizes peoples’ most immediate needs – such as food, water, shelter, and protection – with only a fraction of funding put towards education. Yet, education is critical for securing brighter futures for individuals whose lives have been disrupted by conflict or disaster. With support from Bader Philanthropies, Relief International works to reach and teach generations of children in fragile settings who are disproportionately denied access to education. Our educational programs actively target the most marginalized students, particularly girls.

Strengthening the RI Way

Bader Philanthropies, Inc.

With support from Bader Philanthropies, Relief International is investing in its signature methodology to respond to the ever-changing needs of people in fragile settings: the RI Way. The program supports the four elements that we build into every program we design. These elements include participation, integration, civic skills, and partnerships, which work in tandem to increase the long-term resilience of communities in vulnerable situations.
